Delft Blue[[/NT]]

Christi Carlo explores what happens when the carefully cultivated tradition of Delft Blue begins to flourish once more as something alive.

Rooted in the visual language of Delftware, the digital paintings transform its familiar motifs and ornamental forms into strange ecosystems and impossible hybrid creatures.

The ambiguity of the subjects explores the boundary between inanimate and living matter, and as such creates a tension between culture and nature. Are we looking at an object here? Or is it, after all, an organism? Are we looking at a decorative work of art? Or rather, a piece of nature?

The works invite viewers into a world where boundaries dissolve and forms remain forever in the process of becoming.
